Summary of Position:

The Cafeteria Supervisor reports to the Chef and Catering Manager and works closely with the kitchen staff. This role oversees cafeteria operations, ensuring cleanliness, service quality, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The Cafeteria Supervisor also manages catering and event services at UCA.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Cafeteria Operations Management:

  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and fire regulations regarding building maintenance in the cafeteria, addressing deficiencies in coordination with the Maintenance Coordinator;
  • Ensure the cleanliness and hygiene of the dining area, collaborating with the Housekeeping Coordinator to resolve any sanitation issues;
  • Investigate and resolve complaints regarding service quality, facilities, and accommodations in the cafeteria;
  • Maintain cafeteria equipment inventories and records;
  • Order and manage cafeteria supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels;
  • Provides necessary information on the availability of material assets from warehouse operations to the managers;
  • Oversee the control of tableware and inventories within and outside the cafeteria and submit monthly reports (collecting dishes from common spaces, dormitories, apartments, etc.);
  • Utilize the SAP system to create and submit Purchase Requisitions;
  • Work with the Canteen Software system to manage stock, track usage, and generate reports;

Staff Management and Training:

  • Coordinate with the Chef and Catering Manager to prepare work schedules and timesheets for cafeteria staff;
  • Conduct orientation and training for new staff on work practices, service standards, and safety protocols;
  • Evaluate staff performance and organize retraining and refresher training when necessary;
  • Set and enforce customer service standards for cafeteria staff to ensure a positive dining experience;

Event Management:

  • Plan and coordinate catering services for university events, meetings, and special occasions;
  • Ensure proper staffing and resource allocation for events, working with the kitchen and administration teams;
  • Oversee event setup and execution, ensuring smooth operations and a high level of service and support Chef in catering services;
  • Work with faculty, student organizations, and departments to tailor cafeteria services to event needs;

Occasional Significant Duties:

  • Event Planning & Execution – Assist in organizing and managing catering for university events, conferences, and VIP visits;
  • Special Audits & Inspections – Participate in internal and external audits related to food safety, hygiene, and service quality;
  • Seasonal & Holiday Preparations – Coordinate special cafeteria setups and menu changes for holidays, celebrations, or cultural events;
  • Budget & Cost Monitoring – Assist in tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities in cafeteria operations;
  • Customer Engagement – Occasionally conduct surveys or feedback sessions with students, faculty, and staff to improve cafeteria services.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or certificate in food service management, culinary, or other related areas;
  • Proven experience (1-3 years) in warehouse operations, inventory management, or a similar role;
  • Experience in a food service, catering, or hospitality environment is advantageous;
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills;
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing records and inventories;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, management, and other departments;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment;
  • Problem-solving skills to identify deficiencies and take corrective measures.
