Job Description: At Coventry University Kazakhstan, the Legal Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the university’s compliance with local and international legal frameworks. This role involves providing legal support, drafting and implementing policies and regulatory documents, and handling licensing and permit-related matters. The Legal Specialist will advise on a broad range of legal issues, including employment law, contracts, regulatory compliance, and institutional governance, ensuring the university operates within the legal and ethical standards of both Kazakhstan and the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
Drafting, reviewing, and approving civil-law contracts and the University’s internal regulatory documents;
- Monitoring legislative changes in the Republic of Kazakhstan and advising management on legal implications;
- Providing legal advice, opinions, and analytical support on matters related to the University’s operations;
- Supporting corporate governance processes, including organizing meetings of governing bodies and preparing related documentation;
- Managing pre-trial dispute resolution and representing the University in litigation, mediation, and before state authorities;
- Ensuring legal compliance in employment matters, including disciplinary actions and terminations;
- Supporting inspections by regulatory authorities and handling administrative proceedings;
- Assisting with amendments to corporate documents and transactions related to partnership interests;
- Supporting licensing, accreditation, and regulatory compliance processes in Kazakhstan and internationally (including UK standards);
- Advising on intellectual property, data protection (including GDPR), and international cooperation initiatives;
- Maintaining legal records and contract registers, and providing legal support to University staff as required.
