Country Manager, Kazakhstan (Almaty)

An international pharmaceutical company with a unique portfolio of original Rx and OTC products is looking for an accomplished and ambitious Country Manager to lead and develop its business in Kazakhstan.

Our portfolio includes original pharmaceutical products manufactured in Europe and Switzerland, with a strong track record and leading market positions across European markets.

We are entering a new stage of growth in Kazakhstan and are looking for a leader who can build a successful business from the ground up, leverage the potential of our portfolio, and establish the company as a leading player in the Kazakhstan pharmaceutical market.

This is a role for a true pharmaceutical business leader — someone who knows the Kazakhstan market inside out, understands how to build and scale a pharmaceutical business, and has the ambition, commercial mindset, and leadership skills to deliver outstanding results.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the company's business strategy in Kazakhstan in line with global corporate objectives.

• Take full ownership of business development, sustainable growth, profitability, and achievement of all commercial targets.

• Lead the company's expansion, with the ambition to establish a leading position in the Kazakhstan pharmaceutical market.

• Develop and execute effective commercialization and market access strategies for the company's original Rx and OTC portfolio.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, distributors, healthcare stakeholders, opinion leaders, and business partners.

• Analyze market trends, competitor activities, and identify new business opportunities and growth drivers.

• Take full ownership of budgeting, financial planning, P&L performance, and business forecasting.

• Recruit, develop, motivate, and lead a high-performing team while building a culture of accountability, entrepreneurship, and excellence.

• Ensure full compliance with local legislation, pharmaceutical regulations, and corporate policies.

Requirements

• Higher education in Medicine or Pharmacy.

• Proven successful experience as a Country Manager, General Manager, Head of a Representative Office, or Head of a Trading House within the pharmaceutical industry.

• Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical market in Kazakhstan and an established understanding of its key players, distribution channels, pricing, reimbursement, regulatory environment, and market dynamics.

• Demonstrated track record of building, growing, and successfully leading a pharmaceutical business, supported by measurable commercial achievements.

• At least 7 years of senior executive leadership experience in the pharmaceutical sector.

• Strong strategic planning, commercial management, business development, and P&L leadership skills.

• Extensive experience in portfolio commercialization, market access, and developing strategies for Rx and/or OTC products.

• Strong network and established relationships within the pharmaceutical and healthcare community in Kazakhstan.

• Exceptional leadership, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

• Strong entrepreneurial mindset and ambition to build a market-leading pharmaceutical business.

• Fluent English (written and spoken) is mandatory, with the ability to conduct negotiations, presentations, and business communication in an international environment.
